Kai Hagberg |
Kai Hagberg was born in Rovaniemi, Finland in 1957. He graduated from Lahti Institute of Fine Art in 1983 where he studied sculpture, jewellery design, goldsmithing and handengraving.
During his studies he worked as an assistant to a well known Finnish Sculptor Pentti Papinaho on several of his bronze monuments. In 1982 Kai spent 3 months in the US where he studied print making, and illustration under famous American Illustrator Gary Kelley. After graduation he worked in Olten Switzerland as a jeweller-designer until December 1983 when he migrated to Australia.
Since his arrival in Australia he has worked as a jeweller-designer , painter and sculptor. In 1997 Kai won Bronze Award in Hong Kong International South Sea Pearl Design Competition. In 2002 his design won first prize in Australian Jewellery Design Awards. His clientele includes, Misima Mines Ltd, Placer PNG ltd. and Oil Search ltd. Private collection in Australia, PNG, USAand Europe.
Kai lives in North Queensland. He is a father of two daughter, Teah, born 1992 and Annie, born 1995. He works in Kuranda at the studio he shares with his long time friend Didi La Baysse. |
