Samantha Thompson
“People often ask me how and when I developed my style. I guess I have always interpreted the world this way, since I was a child. I’ve been happy to develop my thoughts on paper and Canvas to my own judgment. Having never been formally trained, I was able to further develop freely. Each piece to me has a story, and in my mind I’m there, taking that journey.”

Samantha Thompson is fast becoming a recognised name among Melbourne's Art society. Impossible to ignore, easy to adore, her pastels, inks and large-scale Acrylic on canvas make a vibrant and whimsical statement that is both compelling and controversial. Her prima donnas of another era, especially the 1930's, draw us in and make us happy.

Bold lines, a keen sense of colour and evocative images are a trademark of Samantha's work. Playful images come alive through instinctual expression. Every piece takes on life of its own as Samantha uses her unique style to instantly transmit her creativity. Her style of creating art without over thinking the process or intent leaves the viewer with an unselfconscious and pure representation.

Samantha was born in Sydney, Australia in 1978. The youngest of five children she spent her formative years travelling with her wanderlust parents before settling in Melbourne. At a very young age she gained immeasurable experience in her parents' design and retail shop, travelling frequently for special design shows in Asia and New York.

After meeting her husband in London, Samantha settled in Napier, New Zealand. It was in Napier, the art deco city of the world, that Samantha was influenced by the special style of that era and soon began exhibiting pastels and acrylics on canvas. After two years in New Zealand Samantha and her family moved back to Melbourne where she lives today.

After building up a strong collector base in Melbourne, Samantha opened her studio in 2007. The Studio serves as a base for clients to see Samantha’s new work and to discuss commission ideas. Galleries across Australia have also included Samantha’s work in there collection, Including Forbes Art Gallery in NSW and Territory Colours in Darwin.
